How to best store your spirits

Most spirits have a long shelf life due to their high alcohol content, but if stored incorrectly, the color can fade and, in the worst case, the taste can change. There are several factors that play a role in the shelf life of spirits, including alcohol content, temperature and storage location.

Store spirits in a dark and cool place:

Like wine, spirits do not benefit from direct sunlight and heat. The high temperatures can ruin the taste and color of the product over time. Therefore, we recommend that you keep your spirits in a cool room or cupboard to avoid large temperature changes.

Do not store spirits in the same way as wine:
Wine should typically be stored lying on its side as this keeps the cork moist and prevents it from drying out, allowing air to pass through the cork. If air gets through the cork, it can negatively affect the flavor.

Spirits, on the other hand, should be stored upright. Due to its high alcohol content, it acts as a preservative and protects the contents of the bottle. If you store your spirits on their side, this can lead to the alcohol coming into contact with the cork, which can damage it and thus impair the flavor of the spirit.

Use correct bottles
If you are the type of person who likes to pour your spirits into another bottle that will be on display, it is important to make sure that the bottle is made to keep air and odors out. It is therefore always a good idea to look for a bottle that is made to contain spirits to avoid changes in the taste and color of the spirit.
