Our Special Edition No. 1 is an enchanting combination of sweet and spicy.
This is due to the fusion of Rhubarb and the slightly spicy Star Anise, which together create a fantastic flavor universe.

Since its launch, our Special Edition No. 1 - Rhubarb & Star Anise has taken Denmark by storm and is still one of our absolute favorites - both internally at Bornholm Spirits, but also among our many loyal and schnapps-loving customers!

The ingredients behind

Rhubarb is a vegetable that offers a tart, citrusy flavor and is primarily used in desserts such as rhubarb compote, rhubarb pie and jam, where the tartness balances the sweetness.
Rhubarb is a vegetable rich in vitamin C and fiber and is known to add a unique flavor and texture to a variety of culinary dishes.

Star anise is an aromatic spice fruit with a distinctive star shape that belongs to the clove family.
It resembles an eight-pointed star with brown fruit shells and small seeds in each arm and has a sweet and spicy aroma with hints of licorice and anise.
Star anise is often used as a spice in culinary recipes and for making liqueurs, teas and aromatic oils and its unique flavor adds depth and complexity to many dishes. Star anise is especially used in Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines.
The spice is also known for its beneficial properties and is traditionally used as a natural remedy in some cultures.

The King of Denmark is our signature cocktail, created with our Special Edition 1 - Rhubarb & Star Anise schnapps.
The King of Denmark is an obvious candidate for the perfect summer cocktail, with its sweet notes of, among other things, rhubarb, lime juice and vanilla syrup.
